In this podcast, we will primarily speak in Irish to immerse you in the language and help you learn naturally. This method, inspired by the principles of comprehensible input, allows you to acquire the language as you listen, making it a more engaging and effective way to learn. You may not understand everything at first, and that’s perfectly normal! The goal is to help you gradually pick up new words and phrases, fostering your confidence in speaking Irish.

Dia dhuit agus fáilte chuig an gcéad eipeasóid de phódcas “Irish Insights.”
Go raibh maith agat as a bheith anseo inniu; tá áthas orm a bheith anseo chun ár gcéad eipeasóid a chur i láthair. Ar an gcéad dul síos, ba mhaith liom mo chuid féin a chur in aithne. Is mise Molly Hillyer, agus is cainteoir dúchais Gaeilge mé. D’fhoghlaim mé an teanga mar pháiste agus chuaigh mé chuig scoil lán-Ghaeilge ar a dtugtar Gaelscoil. Is scoil é nach gceadaítear Béarla ann, mar sin bhí orainn Gaeilge a labhairt amháin.
Is é mo phlean don phódcast seo ná a mhúineadh duit conas Gaeilge a thuiscint agus a labhairt sa chás céanna. Chun é seo a dhéanamh, beidh mé ag labhairt amháin i nGaeilge ó seo amach, agus is féidir leat focail nua agus gramadach a thuiscint go mall agus tú ag éisteacht liom. Is bealach níos zónna agus suimiúla é seo chun foghlaim, toisc go bhfuil tú tumtha go hiomlán sa Ghaeilge. Is gnách nach dtuigeann tú gach rud ag an tús, ná bí buartha faoi sin. Labhróidh mé go mall agus go soiléir, agus an níos mó a éisteann tú leis an bpódcas, is amhlaidh a thuigfidh tú níos mó. Is gnáth é éisteacht 3/4/5 uaireanta, chomh minic agus is mian leat! Is bealach zónna é seo chun Gaeilge a fhoghlaim agus tú ag éisteacht le hábhair agus smaointe suimiúla. Cuirfidh sé seo go mór le do thuras foghlama na Gaeilge.
Tá an smaoineamh seo bunaithe ar teoiric ó phróifistéir darb ainm Steven Krashen; tá a smaoineamh ar a dtugtar “comprehensible input.” Is é an smaoineamh atá ann ná go bhfoghlaimímid teangacha trína n-acquireadh, ní tríd an bhfoghlaim. Mar shampla, ní fhoghlaimíonn leanbh a teanga dhúchais, faigheann siad í trí éisteacht le a dtuismitheoirí agus éisteann siad go leor focal. Mar atá liom! Ní fhoghlaim mé Gaeilge; d’éist mé le Gaeilge gach lá ar scoil agus d’úsáid mé an teanga chun foghlaim agus labhairt le mo chairde.
Le brón, níl mórán acmhainní ann do chainteoirí neamh-dúchasacha chun Gaeilge a fhoghlaim. Tá go leor acmhainní do thosaitheoirí ar nós Duolingo agus aipeanna gutháin eile, agus tá go leor ábhar leibhéal dúchais cosúil le raidió agus cláracha teilifíse Gaeilge. Ach níl acmhainní leibhéal idirmheánach ann, agus sin é an áit a mbeidh cabhair ag an bpódcas seo. Beidh an pódcast seo mar dhroichead a chabhróidh leat do scileanna éisteachta agus do fhocail a fheabhsú ar bhealach zónna, agus is féidir leat cleachtadh áit ar bith! Is féidir leat éisteacht ar do bhealach go dtí an obair nó ar scoil, sa charr nó ar an mbus. Is féidir leat éisteacht agus tú ag déanamh gníomhaíochtaí timpeall an tí nó ag scíth a ligean sa ghairdín. Is féidir leat Gaeilge a staidéar in áit ar bith ar domhan, agus an chuid is fearr, tá sé suimiúil agus taitneamhach. Níl gá le leabhair gramadaí Gaeilge agus suí síos chun staidéar a dhéanamh. Is féidir leat éisteacht le Gaeilge aon uair agus in áit ar bith!
Mar sin, creidim go bhfuilimid ag deireadh ár bpódcas den chéad uair! Conas a chuaigh sé, an raibh tuiscint agat orm? Más amhlaidh nach raibh, ná bí buartha. Is gnách nach dtuigeann tú gach rud ag an tús; déanann cleachtadh foirfe. Cuimhnigh éisteacht níos mó agus níos mó agus feic conas a thuigfidh tú gach uair! An tseachtain seo chugainn, labhróidh muid faoi peataí, ár n-ainmhithe tí is fearr, agus conas a chuireann siad áthas orainn.
Ba mhaith liom comhoibriú leat ar d’éisteacht don chéad phódcast atá go hiomlán i nGaeilge, agus go raibh maith agat as an teanga áille seo a fhoghlaim. Feicfidh mé thú gach seachtain le heipeasóid nua.
Slán!
Hello and welcome to the first episode of the irish insights podcast,
thank you for joining me here today, im very happy to be here to present our first episode. So first of all, I would like to introduce myself, my name is molly hillyer and I am a native irish speaker. I learnt the language as a child and went to an irish speaking school called a gaelscoil. It is a school where english is not allowed, so we could only speak irish.
My plan for this podcast is to teach you how to understand and speak irish in the same way. To do this I will speak only in irish from now on and you can slowly understand new words and grammar as you listen to me speak. This is a more fun and interesting way to learn as you are immersed fully in irish. It is normal to not understand everything at the start, don’t worry about that. I will talk slowly and clearly and the more times you listen to the podcast the more you will understand. It is normal to listen 3/4/5 times, as many times as you like! This is a fun way to learn irish while listening to interesting topics and ideas. This will help you a lot with your irish language learning journey.
This idea is based on the theory of a professor called steven krashen, his idea is called comphrehensible input. The idea is that we learn languages by aquiring them not learning them. For example a baby did not learn their native language, they aquired it from listening to their parents and were able to understand after understanding enough words. Just like me! I did not learn irish, I just listened to irish everyday in school and used the language to learn and talk to my friends.
Sadly there is not a lot of resources for non native speakers to learn irish. There are a lot of beginner resources like duolingo and other phone apps, and there are a lot of native level content like the radio and irish tv shows. But there are no intermediate level resources and that is where this podcast will help. This podcast will be the bridge that helps you improve your listening skills and vocabulary in a fun way and you can practice anywhere! You can listen on your way to work or school, in the car or on the bus. You can listen while you do jobs around the house or relaxing in the garden. You can study irish anywhere in the world and the best part, it is fun and an interesting way to learn. No need for irish grammar books and sitting down to study. You can listen to irish anytime and anywhere!.
So I think we are at the end of our first podcast! How did you do, did you understand me? If not do not worry. It is normal to not understand everything at the start, practice makes perfect. Remember to listen more and more and see how much you can understand each time! Next week we will talk about pets, our favourite house animals and how they make us happy.
Id like to congratulate you on finishing your first podcast entirely in irish and thank you for learning this beautiful language we now share. I will see you every week with a new episode.
Bye
